The Esther and Haim Kalmi Piano Solo Competition

The competition was established by the late Esther Kalmi. Esther, born in Bulgaria, immigrated to Israel with her parents, who were ardent Zionists.

“Music is the Esperanto of human souls. It is understood by every person, whoever they may be. It is the source of joy and happiness,” Esther wrote, explaining her decision to commemorate her family by encouraging outstanding pianists.

In order to express her love for Israel, and her love for its music and culture, and to ensure the continuation and memory of her family, Esther established an association for the advancement of young pianists in memory of her father, the late Haim Kalmi. With the support of the association founded by Mrs. Kalmi, the Academy hopes to encourage the next generation of pianists in Israel year after year.

The winners’ concert is held at the Eden-Tamir Music Center in Ein Kerem and is broadcast live on Kol HaMusica.
