The Contemporary Improvised Music Track is intended for students who hold a Bachelor of Music degree (B.Mus.) from academic institutions in Israel or abroad, in one of the fields of the performing arts — classical music, jazz, or Middle Eastern music — as well as for graduates with a bachelor’s degree in composition and/or multidisciplinary creation who demonstrate a high level of performance in one of the above disciplines.
The art of improvisation is ancient and is rooted in musical traditions across diverse musical cultures. As an academic discipline that has matured in recent decades, it occupies a unique place in the academic world.
In the contemporary era, characterized by multilingual and multidisciplinary approaches, performing artists are required to possess a broad range of knowledge and tools in improvised performance, in creating musical interaction through group improvisation and dialogue with other art forms, as well as in the use of advanced technologies. The Master’s degree track in Contemporary Improvised Music provides an academic and pedagogical response to this field.
