The Research Authority of the Academy of Music and Dance was established in 2018 and joined the "Research in Colleges" (RIC https://ric.org.il/) organization in which it holds a permanent membership. The Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance maintains an equilibrium between its being a professional school of the performing arts and academic institution of higher education. Our mission is a mutually beneficial balance between nurturing professional training on the one hand and academic studies and research activities both of the faculty and students on the other hand on the high academic level.
The report of the International Committee for Quality Assessment (2018) highly recognized the activity of a number of faculty members who publish their research in refereed high-ranked journals and volumes, win research grants and present their findings at international conferences.
In accordance to the RIC policy, the Institutional Research Authority develops the following joint directions:

  • Recognition of the status of colleges as conducting research activities;
  • Generation of initiatives for research collaborations between over 40 colleges – members of the RIC – and between colleges and universities in Israel and abroad.

Areas of activity of the JAMD Research Authority:

  • Coverage and advertisement of academic activities of the faculty members;
  • Organization of academic events linked to the artistic activity;
  • Support of faculty members in combining their academic and artistic activities;
  • Consultation services regarding the preferred publication venues, editing and distribution;
  • Management of the master's degree program with a thesis in music;
  • Supervision of theoretical works for the master's degree in music and dance;
  • Approval and judging of an Independent Study Project ISP (master's degree);
  • Supervision of the curriculum for the purpose of obtaining the qualification towards the DMA degree;
  • Representation of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance on academic and artistic stages throughout the world;
  • Expansion of international activity and joint projects;
  • Encouragement of students’ academic activity (award for the best thesis, etc.)
  • Organization of academic seminars and study days linked to competitions and other artistic activities
  • Appealing to donors and to state support of research activity
  • Timely publication of conferences and grants in a variety of the relevant areas and disciplines.
