The Music Teaching Certificate program is designed for advanced students and music degree holders, training musicians to teach across a wide range of educational settings—from schools to conservatories. The curriculum combines in-depth pedagogical training with hands-on, practical teaching experience throughout the program, while offering the flexibility to choose between different specializations and tailor the track to personal goals. Training takes place within a creative, artistic environment under the guidance of a leading faculty, providing graduates with highly sought-after professional tools and excellent career placement opportunities, alongside paths for advanced studies in music education.

Who is the program for:

  • Third and fourth-year students (Years 3-4) currently studying at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance.
  • Holders of Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in music (B.Mus., M.Mus., B.A., and M.A. in Music).

     

The program trains musicians to work in educational institutions such as schools, community centers (Matnasim), and conservatories, offering 3 specializations:

 

  1. Music teaching for elementary and middle schools (Teaching Certificate for Grades 1–9).
  2. Music teaching for high schools (Teaching Certificate for Grades 10–12 or a comprehensive K-12/Grades 1-12 Teaching Certificate).
  3. Instrumental and vocal pedagogy (Comprehensive K-12/Grades 1–12 Certificate).

Program Features:

The curriculum includes a wide range of courses, such as: Music Education in Special Education, Teaching Music History, Percussion Methodics, Child Creative Development, the Kodály Method, Conducting Children's Choirs, and Early Childhood Music Education.

Graduates of the program enjoy high employment rates in their field and are in great demand across various sectors of the education system. Many of our alumni currently hold key positions and prominent teaching roles within the music education landscape in Israel.

Students enrolled in the program have the option to study concurrently or continue upon graduation toward a Master of Music (M.Mus.) degree in Music Education, with either a non-thesis or a thesis track. *The awarding of the degree in the Master's track with thesis is subject to the approval of the Council for Higher Education.

The duration of study is 1–2 days per week for two years, which includes practical teaching experience.

Tuition for the program: Equivalent to one year of undergraduate tuition.
