The Mendi Rodan Symphony Orchestra Concert Marking 90 Years of the Palestine Broadcasting Service Chamber Orchestra

Marking the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Palestine Broadcasting Service Chamber Orchestra, this special concert by the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance Mendi Rodan Symphony Orchestra revisits the sounds and musical landscape of art music in Mandatory Palestine during the early days of radio broadcasting.

This festive concert will take audiences back to 1930s Jerusalem and to the beginnings of radio in Israel, when a young broadcasting station aired live musical performances by an eleven-member orchestra. The ensemble performed classical masterpieces alongside works by Jewish composers who had immigrated to the Land of Israel — from Antonio Vivaldi to Paul Ben-Haim.

Participants:

Musical Director and Conductor – Evgeny Bushkov
Clarinet Soloist – Moshe Ben Shimon
Daniel Cavari and Yana Lazurenko– cello
Noor Amer and Anna Vorontsov– mezzo-soprano
