A. Academic Qualifications
Applicants must hold one of the following:
An Israeli Matriculation Certificate (Bagrut), or
An equivalent qualification, such as:
A recognized pre-academic preparatory program approved by the Council for Higher Education
A foreign high school diploma recognized by the Ministry of Education
A “30+ Preparatory Program” certificate
B. Instrument examination
Classical Piano
- A work from the Baroque period at a level of difficulty equivalent to a three-part invention by Bach.
- An easy sonata by Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn, or Clementi.
- A work from the Romantic period at the level of difficulty of a nocturne by Chopin or Album for the Young.
Other Instruments (Classical Performance)
Three works, each in a different style: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, or 20th century.
Primary Instrument – Jazz (excluding drums)
- Performance of melody and accompaniment — for melodic instruments without accompaniment — from a multi-genre repertoire.
- Improvisation based on the structure of the piece.
- Transcription of an existing solo and performance of the transcription during the examination.
Primary Instrument – Drums and Multi-Disciplinary Percussion
- Performance of rhythms characteristic of the style.
- Performance of a solo based on the structure of the piece.
Primary Instrument – Multi-Disciplinary Performance
- The candidate shall choose a song from the fields of jazz, rock, pop, or Hebrew song, either with playback accompaniment (it is recommended to prepare a playback track containing 3–5 repetitions of the song) or as a solo performance. The candidate must perform:
a. The melody of the song.
b. The accompaniment of the song (if the instrument is harmonic).
c. An improvisation based on the structure of the song. - The candidate shall perform a transcription of a complete solo from the fields of jazz, rock, or pop.
Voice – Multi-Disciplinary
- Performance of an interpretation of an Israeli song.
- Performance of a song in a fast tempo.
- Performance of a song in a slow tempo.
C. Personal interview with the head of the department
The interview will usually be held on the day of the instrument examination.It should be scheduled in advance with the academic secretariat when registering for the examinations.
D. Music skills – music theory and aural training
Written examination: |
1.Pitch and notation (keys, notes, bars). |
2.Identification of different types of interval – perfect, major, augmented, diminished – descending and ascending and their inversions –consonant and dissonant,within an octave. |
3.Single voice, diatonic dictation, in major and minor scales, with accidentals. |
4.Measures and rhythms of different kinds. |
5.Identification of triads (major, minor, diminished, augmented) and their inversions.Identification of major seventh chord diminished (dominant seventh chord) in all inversions. |
6. Transformation. |
7. Basic music terms (dynamic, tempo, articulation, form, texture, etc). |
Verbal examination: |
