Dr. Sharon Tourel

Research Areas

Dr. Sharon Tourel is a scholar, educator, dancer, and creator operating at the intersection of
East and West. Her work explores the synthesis of dance and music through both theoretical
research and performative practice.
She holds a PhD from the Department of Musicology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem,
an M.Mus. from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, as well as an M.A. and a B.A.
from the Hebrew University.
Her doctoral dissertation examined the historical aspects and aesthetic principles of
Egyptian Dance in Cairo during the 1940s. Her research focuses on the cultural "seam"
between East and West and the interrelationships between dance and music.
Dr. Tourel publishes her scholarly research in academic journals and presents her
performance works on various professional stages.
In addition to her academic and artistic pursuits, she is a member of the Council for Culture
and Art at the Ministry of Culture and serving in both the Dance Department and the
Interdisciplinary Department.
