All pieces must be approved by the teacher.
Each student, in their own way, will be required to demonstrate, throughout their studies, continuous progress in 4 areas relevant to a multidisciplinary performing artist:
- Technical ability
- Personal expression and personal interpretation
- Improvisation ability
- Finally, in the half-recital and full recital – the ability to bring a complete original work to fruition, and to build a concept.
End of Year 1 Exam
- Performance of three pieces in different styles. The played pieces should have as diverse a character as possible.
- One of the pieces will be a short, challenging, etude-like piece, such as an etude, a piece from the classical repertoire, etc.
End of Year 2 Exam
- A classical piece with significant technical challenges
- A jazz standard – theme plus improvisation
- Personal choice
End of Year 3 Exam
- Half-recital - The student will prepare 3 pieces that constitute a sort of mini-performance. The pieces will reflect a unified, explainable concept and rationale.
- The content of the exam can consist of original pieces written by the student, or creative versions, with an original personal interpretation, of existing material.
- In any case - the content of the exam will not be a reproduction of existing materials.
Year 4 – Graduation Recital / Final Project
- The student will prepare a half-hour performance – which will reflect a unified, explainable concept and rationale. The student is requested not to exceed this time limit.
- The project content can consist of original pieces written by the student and creative versions, with an original personal interpretation, of existing material.
- In any case - the content will not be an absolute reproduction of existing materials.
- Even in the case of an original material recital, original songs, etc. - the student's technical ability on their primary instrument must be optimally demonstrated (solo parts expressing technical ability, etc.).
- The individual teacher will accompany the process of building the graduation recital and approve its content.
