Prof. Veronika Cohen  is Chairperson of the Department of  Music Education  at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance.
At the Academy she has served as Dean of the Faculty of Theory, Composition, Conducting, and Music Education.
 
 Education:
 Undergraduate studies in  composition at Peabody Conservatory of Music;
 Master’s degree from Yale University in composition;
 Ph.D. in music education from the University of Illinois .

Musical  Creativity in Children;
The Relationship between Movement  and Musical Cognition;

Musical Mirrors
She has developed a pedagogic approach for facilitating listening to complex music through the use of Kinesthetic Analogues or “Musical Mirrors,” These tie musical events to their kinesthetic source.
 
Workshops and Conference Presentations
 Her work has been presented at many international conferences.
 She has given workshops and extended courses in the United States, Canada, Italy,  England,  China, Russia, Poland.
 
"Touch the Music" = La gaat be Musica"
 
For the past 22 years she has been musical and pedagogic director  of  a  project of prepared concerts in schools in Jerusalem and in the North of Israel. In this project active involvement with pieces to be  heard at the concerts  becomes the center of music lessons.
Teachers involved in the project receive both written materials written by Prof. Cohen and further guidance at her workshops.
