JAMD Welcomes Trombonist Nir Erez

The Orchestral Instruments Department is pleased to welcome Nir Erez to its Faculty as a Professor of Trombone.

Nir Erez joined the Israel Philharmonic in 2008 when he was only 19 years old while still serving in the Israeli Army Band, and four years later he won the principal position of the orchestra. Aside from having Maestro Zubin Mehta as musical director, Mr. Erez has played under the batons of many other international conductors such as Kurt Masur, Gustavo Dudamel, Ricardo Muti, Christof von Dohnanyi, Semyon Bychkov and Yuri Temirkanov. In addition to his position in the Israel Philharmonic, Nir was invited in March 2013 by Maestro Claudio Abbado to play as principal trombone with Orchestra Mozart of Bologna at the opening of the Lucerne Festival. 

A student of Daniele Morandini (La Scala Opera House, Milano), Ian Bousfield (Wiener Philharmoniker) and Micha Davis (Israel Philharmonic), Nir often participates in international masterclasses with Joseph Alessi, Michel Becquet, Andrea Bandini, Andrea Conti. He began his musical studies in his hometown of Lod, under the instructions of Nachman Yariv and Vladimir Flaxman. 
 
Nir is a member of the Israel Philharmonic Brass Quartet, which has performed recitals in New York's Carnegie Hall and in Tokyo, Japan. He is the winner of the Audience Choice Award in the Aviv Competition for brass (2010) and has also been awarded excellence scholarships by the American-Israel Culture Fund between the years 2002-2012.
