Admission Requirements for the Cross-Disciplinary Performance: Vocal Track

a.Written examination

Theory:
1.Intervals – identification and construction.

2.Triads and four note chords – identification and construction.

3.Scales and modes – identification and construction.

4.Transformation.

5.Readingand writing in F and G keys.

Analysis:
1.Analysis of the harmony / melody of a jazz piece.

Aural training:
1. Dictation of a single voice tune.

2.Dictation of a jazz harmony progression.

3.Rhythm dictation.

 

b.Voice examination (for jazz singers):

1. Personal interview.

2. Ear training- and test of aptitude at improvisation.

3.The performance of four pieces of different styles, recommended from the “Realbook”. The list should include:
a. A ballad.
b. “Confirmation” by Charlie Parker.
c. Another standard that includes improvisation.
d. Blues.

Please note:

1. You are required to bring sheet music/charts of pieces to be performed at the exam.
2. For the performance of the pieces, you will need to bring an accompanist.
3. The candidate should list songs prepared for the exam on the registration form.
4. The committee reserves the right to choose to choose only some of the four songs the candidate has prepared.
5. Please make a point of sending the following documents in advance, for your personal file:
a: Confirmation by an ENT specialist of healthy vocal cords
b: Letter of recommendation from a voice teacher.

 

b.Voice examination (Cross-Disciplinary singing):

1.Personal interview.

2.Ear training test.

3. The performance of four pieces of different styles.
The list will include the following categories:
a. One song with focus on vocal musicianship ( example:”Confession” by Sasha Argov)
b. One song with focus on presentation
c. At least one song in Hebrew, at least one in English

Please note:

1. You are required to bring sheet music/charts of pieces to be performed at the examination.
2. For the performance of the pieces you will need to bring an accompanist
3. The candidate should list the songs prepared for the exam on the registration form.
4. The committee reserves the right to hear only some of the four songs the candidate has prepared.
