Yizhar Karshon

Teaching Areas: 

Musician, harpsichord player and conductor. One of the most prominent musicians in Israel in the field of Baroque music.

Karshon accomplished his academic studies in the Jerusalem Music Academy under the guidance of David Shemer, in the Musicology Departement of the Hebrew University (B.A.Mus) and the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis under the guidance of Jörg-Andreas Bötticher (second degree).

After returning to Israel he became one of the founders of Barrocade Ensemble (active since 2007), with whom he performed widely in Israel and in Europe, and recorded four CDs so far.

Apart from playing with Barrocade, Karshon often plays both as soloist and as continuo player with all major ensembles in Israel. Yizhar Karshon has also conducted several concerts with the Barrocade, the Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra and the Israel Chamber Orchestra. In 2014 Karshon has recorded a CD with Suites by Charles Dieupart, that has been published by the German label Carpe Diem.

Since 2018 works as the director of the Mevasseret-Zion Conservatory, and since 2023 as the harpsichord teacher in the Jerusalem Music Academy. In 2024 he was conducting the opera production of the vocal department in the Academy, with the opera “L’Incoronazione di Poppea” by Claudio Monteverdi.
